LaBeau, Mikell Garner NAC Pitcher and Rookie of the Week

CASTLETON, Vt. – After helping the Castleton baseball team to a perfect 8-0 record in North Atlantic Conference action last week, Michael LaBeau and Davis Mikell have been named NAC Pitcher and Rookie of the Week, respectively, as announced Monday afternoon by the league office.

LaBeau anchored the nation's top-ranked pitching staff with another dominant week on the mound, picking up two NAC wins with a pair of complete-game victories. The senior allowed one run on nine hits and recorded 10 strikeouts with just one walk over 14.0 innings pitched. He struck out three batters and allowed one earned run on seven hits over 7.0 innings in a key win over Colby-Sawyer, before topping that performance with a 7.0-inning, two-hit shutout against Thomas. LaBeau fanned seven with no walks to match his career-high fourth win of the season in the win over the Terriers. The Bellows Falls native has gone the distance in five straight starts, with four resulting in a conference victory. Against NAC competition this season, LaBeau is 4-0 with a 0.62 ERA in 29.0 innings.

Mikell enjoyed another stellar week both offensively and defensively for the Spartans. In eight NAC victories, the freshman hit safely in seven games while batting .385 (10-for-26) with a .484 on-base percentage and an impressive .846 slugging percentage. He belted three home runs, laced three doubles, recorded eight RBI, and scored eight runs, while drawing five walks. The Williston native also picked up his third win of the season on the mound, as he struck out eight and allowed three unearned runs on just two hits over 5.0 innings against New England College. In the same game after falling behind to the Pilgrims, 3-2, Mikell sparked a three-run sixth inning rally with a solo home run to help lead the Spartans to a 5-4 victory.

LaBeau is awarded for the first time this season, while this marks the third NAC Rookie of the Week honor for Mikell. To view the full NAC weekly release, click here.
