Down to its final two outs and trailing by one in the top of the ninth, the Castleton baseball team found life and battled back to tie the game before scoring three more runs in the top of the 10th to stun defending national champion Cal Lutheran, 5-2, Tuesday afternoon at Ullman Stadium.
The Castleton baseball team rallied to erase an early deficit and held a late one-run lead, but it did not stand as Claremont-Mudd-Scripps scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to defeat the Spartans, 4-3, Monday afternoon at Arce Field.
Davis Mikell smashed a go-ahead three-run home run in the eighth inning and tossed the final 2.0 scoreless innings on the mound to help lead the Castleton baseball team to a season-opening 6-3 victory over Pomona-Pitzer on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Just over nine months since reeling in its fourth consecutive league title, the Castleton baseball team is in full swing with similar goals to remain a North Atlantic Conference powerhouse and national contender in 2018.
Coming off its third straight 30-win season and fourth consecutive North Atlantic Conference title, the Castleton University baseball team has announced its 2018 schedule, which once again features a tough non-conference slate with 15 home contests at Spartan Field.
Castleton University head baseball coach Ted Shipley and his staff will be offering a Sunday evening winter baseball program for boys ages 9 – 18 for eight consecutive Sundays starting on January 14, 2018, and continuing every Sunday until March 4, 2018.
