Spartan Baseball Releases 2018 Schedule

2018 Castleton Baseball Schedule

CASTLETON, Vt. –
Coming off its third straight 30-win season and fourth consecutive North Atlantic Conference title, the Castleton University baseball team has announced its 2018 schedule, which once again features a tough non-conference slate with 15 home contests at Spartan Field.

The Spartans have reached the NCAA Tournament five out of the last six years and finished 34-10 overall last year, tying the program record for the most single-season wins and posting the highest winning percentage (.773) of any season with at least 25 games played.

Castleton has a full slate of 40 games on the schedule in 2018 and will begin its season with a six-game trip to California during February Break. The Spartans open the campaign with back-to-back games against Pomona-Pitzer Feb. 17-18 and will face Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Feb. 19, before taking on defending national champion Cal Lutheran on Feb. 20. From there, Castleton is slated to face Chapman and Whittier Feb. 21-22 before returning home from The Golden State.

Following a two-week break, Castleton sets back out to open a stretch of 11 straight road games out of state. The Spartans travel to Manhattanville to play the host Valiants and John Jay in a doubleheader on March 11, and then head to Virginia for two games against Apprentice and a single nine-inning contest against Tufts March 15-16. Two days later, the Spartans travel to Connecticut to face Coast Guard Academy, before closing out the month with another non-conference pairing at Skidmore on March 28.

Castleton will begin April with 12 games in nine days, starting April 2 with a single game at Clark – a team it bashed five home runs against last season – before diving into NAC play one day later with a doubleheader at New England College. After a non-conference clash at Union April 4, Castleton finally returns home, where it has gone 25-5 over the past two seasons, for a season-long eight-game homestand. The Spartans host a twin bill against Lyndon in their home opener on April 5, before welcoming UMaine-Farmington for a four-game series April 7-8. The Spartans will then host the Colby-Sawyer Chargers, who took both ends of a doubleheader at Spartan Field last season, on April 11.

After closing out the home stretch, Castleton remains in conference action as it travels to Maine for four games at Thomas April 14-15 and concludes the season series at Lyndon with a doubleheader April 18. Castleton will wrap up its non-conference slate against in-state rival Middlebury on April 19, before returning back home to host Husson in a four-game series April 21-22.

The Spartans will then hit the road for the final time of the regular season to complete the season series at Colby-Sawyer on April 25, before returning home to wrap up the regular season against NEC in a rematch of last season's NAC Championship on April 26 at Spartan Field.

The NAC Tournament, which will be played at the highest seed, is scheduled for May 4-6.
