CASTLETON, Vt. – The accolades for Castleton University junior first baseman Davis Mikell continued to roll in Thursday, as he was named to the D3baseball.com All-New England First Team.
It marks the second time Mikell has been named to the All-New England First Team, following an appointment as a starting pitcher his freshman year in 2017. In total, 15 players from the Little East Conference earned All-New England recognition, with three of the four major awards—Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year and Rookie of the Year—going to LEC student-athletes.
With 62 hits—fifth most in the Little East—during the 2019 season, Mikell finished with a team- and conference-leading .446 batting average. He put together 19 multi-hit games, slapped two hits in 11 games, three hits in seven contests and reached the five-hit plateau once. The Williston native tallied nine multi-RBI games and had a 16-game and 22-game hitting streak and reached-base streak, respectively, throughout the year.
Mikell also notched an LEC leading .552 on-base percentage (OBP) and a .676 slugging percentage, good for third in the league. On a national scale, Mikell ranked 11th in batting average and seventh in OBP. Unafraid to show his power, Mikell earned 94 total bases, consisting of 10 doubles, two triples and six home runs while driving in 33 runners. He was walked a team-leading 29 times, was hit by five pitches, stole six bases and scored 32 runs.
