MARSHFIELD, Mass. – Senior linebacker Jakob Trautwein has been named the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against Fitchburg State this past Saturday, Sept. 9.
Trautwein tied his career high with 18 tackles, eight solo tackles and 10 tackle assists, Saturday night against the Falcons. Among his 18 tackles were two sacks, becoming the seventh player in Castleton history to earn two sacks in one game. In total, he was credited with three tackles for a loss.
In addition, Trautwein forced the Fitchburg State fumble deep in Falcon territory late in the third quarter that led to the Castleton field goal that tied the game at 10-10.
Trautwein continues to lead the ECFC and is seventh in the country in tackles per game with 15.0. He is just seven tackles away from moving into fifth place on the Castleton career tackles list, and he moved into a tie for third place on the Spartan all-time list for tackles for a loss.
Voted Second Team All-ECFC last season, Trautwein has earned the conference's weekly defensive award for the second time in his career. He was named ECFC Defensive Player of the Week Oct. 3, 2016, after he collected 17 tackles and an interception against Anna Maria.
Castleton welcomes Norwich to Spartan Stadium for the Homecoming game Saturday, Sept. 16, with a 6 p.m. kickoff.
