MANCHESTER, N.H. – Capping off a career that included four all-conference awards, senior offensive lineman Eric Decker of the Castleton University football team has been named to the 2017 New England Football Writers Division II/III All-New England Team, announced Sunday by the organization.
Earlier this month, Decker was voted First Team All-Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC), becoming the second player in Castleton history to earn either First Team or Second Team All-ECFC honors in four straight seasons. One of this year's captains, Decker anchored the Spartan offensive line, helping the team accumulate 306.4 total yards per game in conference play.
The 2015 ECFC Offensive Lineman of the Year, Decker is part of the most successful senior class in the history of the Castleton football program, helping the Spartans post a 24-16 (.600) record over the past four seasons. Decker and his fellow seniors helped Castleton to a 19-9 (.679) mark in ECFC competition, including three years with a 5-2 league record.
Decker is one of four players representing the ECFC on the All-New England Team, along with running back John Smith and defensive back Quan Soyini of Husson University and linebacker Rico Aaron of Dean College. This is the second time Decker has been named to the NEFW All-New England Team, previously receiving the honor in 2015.
Castleton University finished the 2017 season with a 6-4 overall record, including a 5-2 league mark that placed the Spartans third in the final regular season league standings.
