Castleton Football Boasts 13 Representatives on ECFC All-Academic Team

MARSHFIELD, Mass. – The Castleton University football team led the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) with 13 representatives on the 2017 ECFC All-Academic Team, as the entire list of players was released Thursday by the league office.

In total, 53 student-athletes representing all eight ECFC institutions were recognized, including 13 Spartans, one more than ECFC champion Husson. To be eligible for the ECFC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in standing with two years of participation on the football team and must have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or above after the fall 2017 semester.

Seniors Shane Hurley, Cam McHale, and Justin Nolan received ECFC All-Academic honors for the third time in their collegiate careers, while juniors Grant Cummings, John Hamme, Jackie Jillett, and Ethan Sherwood earned their second straight academic award. First-time honorees for Castleton include senior Troy Dane, juniors Adnane Adossama and Owen Tretter, and sophomores Austin Crosier, Will Mossop, and Joseph Saraiva.

2017 marks the fourth consecutive season and fifth time in the nine-year history of the program in which Castleton has placed 12 or more players on the ECFC All-Academic Team.

Castleton finished third in the 2017 ECFC regular season standings with a 5-2 league mark, its fifth winning conference record in the past six seasons. The Spartans posted a 6-4 overall record in 2017, including a victory over Norwich to regain the Maple Sap Bucket Trophy.
