SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Castleton University field hockey team fell 2-1 to the Union College Dutchwomen in a non-conference double-overtime contest on Friday afternoon. Following the season-opening loss, the Spartans are 0-1, while Union is 1-0.
Allison Lowell opened the scoring for both sides with a tally in the 30th minute of play. The freshman received a leading pass from Mia Sanborn on the left side of the goal. Lowell corralled the ball and fired it into the back of the cage to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead.

Offensively, Wells and Casey Traill led the Spartans with seven shots apiece, recording 14 of the teams' 20 attempts on-goal. Gabriella Hunt, Cydney Jeffrey, Rachel Holland, Mia Sanborn and Emily Lowell aided in the attack.
Castleton University returns to action at 4 p.m. on Saturday as it faces Morrisville State in another non-conference game.
