CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton University field hockey team dropped its home-opener 3-1 to the Lyons of Mount Holyoke College on Saturday afternoon. Castleton falls to 1-3 on the season, while Mount Holyoke is now 2-1.
Following a first half, which was widely dominated by the Lyons, Castleton came out of halftime with a renewed energy. The Spartans earned all six of their penalty corners in the stanza.
Castleton attempted 14 shots in the contest, splitting evenly with seven in each period. No shot was more important than Sarah Wells second goal of the season, which she notched in the 61st minute.
The junior co-captain took the ball from the top of the arc, brought it through the defense and slapped it past the goalkeeper. She was unassisted on the effort.
Tashia Pashby-Rockwood made the start in the cage, tallying all 70 minutes of play. She stopped seven opposing shots in the loss.
Field hockey heads back out on the road for a 7 p.m. contest against Plymouth State, to take place at the New Hampton School.
