Castleton Looks To Rebound With Three Games In Five Days

CASTLETON, Vt. – Entering the week at 1-3, Castleton field hockey heads into a stretch of three games in five days. Starting with a road game at Plymouth State University at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, the Spartans return home for five straight contests.

Of the five home games, the first two occur during the current week. Under the lights at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Castleton hosts Westfield State University before welcoming the Oneonta Red Dragons at noon on Saturday.

Leading the squad to this point is Sarah Wells, who has a team-high two goals and four points. Right behind the junior are three other Spartans, each with three points. Cydney Jeffrey, Emily Lowell and Mia Sanborn have one goal and one assist apiece on the season.

Field hockey is searching for an answer against the Panthers as they have lost three matchups in a row, dating back to a 7-6 win in 2013.

On the other hand, Castleton does not have much history with its following opponents. In 2015, the Spartans played Westfield State for the first time in recent history, earning a 2-1 win. During the past season, the Owls returned the favor and earned a 4-0 win.

Against the Red Dragons, 2017 will be the first game between the two schools. Oneonta comes off a run to its conference championship game and is 2-2 on the year. It will play Wells College prior to coming to Castleton.
