Castleton,Vt. – The Spartans put forth the ninth-lowest team score on the first day of the Williams Invitational and finished the two-day tournament alone in 14th place in the midst of a difficult field.
Castleton received a number of strong performances on Saturday for its lowest team round of golf this season, with a 314. Sophomore Josef Ralbovky shot a 5-over 76 while freshman Zac Temple was just two shots back with a 78, good for 32nd. Junior Dan Hogan was one shot behind Temple to finish tied for 40th with a 79 and Justin Del Bianco rounded out the scorers with a 10-over 81.
Sunday was a slightly different story as the team shot a 330, however their two-day total of 641 still put them 14th out of 24 schools and in directly in front of Bowdoin (646) and Tufts (647). Temple was the low man on the day with a 79 while Hogan and Del Bianco each shot an 82. Ralbovsky finished with an 84 on the day but still finished with the second-lowest two-day total on the team (160).
Williams won the event with a two-day total of 607, just barely edging out RPI (611) and Trinity (612).
Castleton returns to the links next weekend for the Lou Jarvis Invitational at Jay Peak Golf Course.
