Castleton, Vt. – The Castleton golf team looks to make a statement this weekend when they travel to Rockland, Maine for the North Atlantic Conference Championship hosted by Maine Maritime at the Samoset Resort on the Ocean.
The Spartans have been playing good golf of late and seek to capture the program's first NAC Championship since 2005. Castleton has come in second and first in its last two tournaments, shooting a 314 for second at the Elms Invitational and a 316 to win the Lou Jarvis Invitational.
Freshman Zach Temple won both competitions, shooting a 2-over 74 in one event and a 3-over 75 in the other. He has been Castleton's low scorer all year long and hopes to continue his strong play this weekend. Looking to provide depth for the Spartans is sophomore Joseph Ralbovsky and junior Daniel Hogan. Ralbovsky finished right behind Temple in the Lou Jarvis Invitational with a 79 while Hogan shot a 78 at the Elms Invitational to finished tied for seventh. Freshman Jesse Dodge and Justin Del Bianco have both posted rounds under 80 in one of the last two competitions.
Castleton will need a complete team effort if the Spartans hope to take down seven-time reigning champion Husson. The Eagles have dominated the NAC in recent years and in 2012 won the title by 11 strokes over Salem State, who shot a 621 as a team. Castleton has taken third each of the past two years and have had one player record a top-six finish in 2011 and 2012.
