CASTLETON, Vt. – After taking the Johnson State Invitational last weekend, the Castleton men's golf team looks to continue its winning ways with a trip to the Middlebury Fall Classic in Lake Placid this weekend.
The Spartans took the top spot with a team score of 317 for the tournament in the Johnson Invitational. Senior Zach Temple led Castleton, posting a final score of one-over-par 73. After completing the front nine at three-over par, Temple proved to only get stronger as the day went on by charging on the back nine with an impressive two-under 34. Temple's final score of a 73 also earned him North Atlantic Conference Golfer of the Week.
Luke Salerno will look to continue his success after finishing tied for second in last week's Johnson State Invitational with a final score of 78. Finishing right behind him was Castleton's Jacob Erwin, who also recorded a great start to his career. Erwin finished seventh overall with an 81 (+9), earning him Co-Rookie of the Week honors by the NAC.
Jon Benson and Jordon Ayer also competed for the Spartans, posting scores of 85 and 88 in the first match of the season.
Castleton will travel to Lake Placid this weekend seeking its second-straight win in as many events this season. The two-day tournament tees off at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10.
