Temple Leads the Field After Day One at NEIGA Championship

BREWSTER, Mass. – After one day of competition, the Castleton men's golf team is tied for seventh place at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship at The Captains Course.

The Spartans posted a team total of 323 (+35), tied with Southern Maine and just three strokes behind sixth-place Endicott.

Zach Temple wrangled the par-72 course on Sunday, shooting a 73 (+1) to lead the field of Division III golfers. The senior got off to a blazing start, going three-under par through the first 11 holes, making three birdies in total on the day.

Luke Salerno finished the first day second on the squad and tied for 11th overall after carding a five-over 77. Jon Benson shot a first-day score of 79 (+7) to sit in third place on the team and tied for 19th overall, while Jordan Ayer shot a 94 (+22) to round out the scoring for the Spartans.

Nichols leads the field after a day of competition, as they posted a team total of 307 (+19). Husson and Babson are tied for second place at 311 (+23), while Salem St. and Western New England round out the top-five schools after a day of play.
