Men’s Ice Hockey Picked to Finish Seventh in NEHC Preseason Poll

MARSHFIELD, Mass. – The Castleton University men's ice hockey team received 36 total points and was selected to finish seventh in the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) Preseason Poll.

The annual poll is compiled based on rankings from the league's ten head coaches.

Defending champion Hobart College is the preseason favorite having collected seven out of nine first-place votes. The Statesmen will enter the season as the sixth-ranked team in the nation on the USCHO preseason poll.  Norwich University, the 2017 NCAA D-III champion, is ranked second and received two first-place votes. The Cadets are pegged at 13th in the USCHO rankings.

UMass Boston (77 points), Babson College (70 points), and New England College (58 points) round out the top five. All three schools received at least one vote in the USCHO top-15 national poll.

Skidmore received the remaining first-place vote and is predicted to finish sixth.

Castleton is followed in the rankings by Southern Maine (32 points), Suffolk University (24 points), and Johnson & Wales University (12 points).

The Spartans will open regular season play on Friday when they host Wentworth at Spartan Arena at 7 p.m. Castleton will open NEHC play Nov. 2 when it hosts the favorite Hobart before welcoming Skidmore on Nov. 3.
