GORHAM, Maine – The Castleton University men's hockey team surrendered three power play goals en route to a 3-0 shutout defeat at Southern Maine in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action on Saturday.
The Spartans close the 2018 portion of its schedule with an overall record of 2-8-4 and a 1-5-2 mark in conference play. The Huskies earned their second victory of the season to improve to 2-9-2 (2-6-1 NEHC).
Southern Maine held a 2-0 lead through the first 10:22 thanks to power play goals from Colin Merrill and Michael Green.
The Spartans earned the first three power play opportunities in the second period but were unable to cut into the two-goal deficit as the middle frame was played without a change in the scoreboard.
The Huskies scored their third and final insurance goal at 6:18 of the third period on a power play goal by Adam Papayoanou. Castleton mustered just seven shots in the third period as Anthony D'Aloisio registered 24 saves in his first shutout of the campaign.
Wyatt Pickrell stopped 32 shots as his record slipped to 1-6-4. Troy Taylor led the Spartans with six shots. Papayoanou and Greene each added an assist for the Huskies to finish with a pair of points. Also for Southern Maine, J. Bartuccio-Pere, Maverick Lynes, and Tyler Mathieu recorded one helper apiece.
