CASTLETON, Vt. – The 2018 competition schedule for the Castleton University men's lacrosse team has been finalized, featuring eight home matches and three contests against 2017 NCAA Tournament squads.

In fact, the first two matches for the Spartans are against teams that reached the 2017 NCAA Tournament. Castleton opens the season Wednesday, Feb. 28, at Plattsburgh State, and then the Spartans will return to Plattsburgh, N.Y., for a neutral-site contest Sunday, March 4, against St. Lawrence, ranked ninth in the preseason USILA Division III Coaches Poll.

The Spartans remain on the road for two more matches, traveling to Milton, Mass., to face Curry College Sunday, March 10. The season-opening road swing concludes Tuesday, March 13, at SUNY Potsdam.

Castleton opens a six-match homestand Saturday, March 17, with its first North Atlantic Conference game of the year against Lyndon, followed by a regional contest against Plymouth State 24 hours later on Sunday, March 18. The Spartans welcome intrastate rival Norwich Wednesday, March 21, with future conference foe Southern Maine making the trip to Castleton for a game Saturday, March 24.

The Spartans welcome SUNY Canton to town Wednesday, March 28, before wrapping up the homestand with a conference match against Maine Maritime Saturday, March 31. Castleton continues conference play with the short trip to Green Mountain Wednesday, April 4, followed by a NAC match at Husson Saturday, April 7.

The following weekend, Castleton returns home for a league contest against Thomas College Saturday, April 14, before heading out the next day to take on Kean University in Union, N.J., Sunday, April 15. The Spartans host Johnson State Wednesday, April 18, and then wrap up the regular season in Henniker, N.H., against defending NAC champion New England College Monday, April 23.

Once again, the top six teams in the NAC will qualify for the conference tournament, with the quarterfinals taking place Saturday, April 28. The top two seeds will receive a bye and host the semifinals Wednesday, May 2, with the highest remaining seed hosting the championship match Saturday, May 5.

Castleton will look to advance to the NAC Tournament final for the 15th straight year. Bo McDougall enters his seventh season as head coach of the Spartans and welcomes back four All-NAC performers from 2017: Edward Doton, Josh Gosselin, Brandon Myron, and Sam Siegel.
