Men’s Lacrosse Falls to Nationally Ranked St. Lawrence

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Castleton University lost to 10th-ranked St. Lawrence University, 18-2, Sunday afternoon in a non-conference men's collegiate lacrosse match held at Plattsburgh State's Field House Complex.

St. Lawrence (1-0) scored all seven goals in the first period, with Jordan Dow scoring two of the last three Saint goals of the quarter. After Conor Caffrey scored his second and third goals of the match early in the second quarter, Castleton received an extra-man opportunity and created several chances, with two shots by Malik Hines turned away by Saint goalie Alex Terry.

Off Hines's second shot, Kevin McCarthy picked up the rebound and earned his fourth goal of the season. St. Lawrence responded with two more goals before Jason Sedell picked up his first goal of the season, but the Saints scored twice in the final 1:26 of the second quarter to extend their lead to 13-2 at halftime.

The Saints scored all five goals in the second half, three in the third quarter and two in the final period. Caffrey led St. Lawrence with four goals and three assists, while Dow finished with four goals and one assist.

Spartan goalie Brandon Myron made 11 saves before Maxx Ingison replaced him with 8:46 remaining in the match. Josh Gosselin went 13-9 in faceoffs and led Castleton with six groundballs, and Ryan Crowningshield caused three turnovers.

For St. Lawrence, Terry played the first 38 minutes of the match and made seven saves, with Matty Corbelle coming on in relief and was credited with two saves in 22 minutes of action. Dow and Sam Sweeney collected six groundballs apiece, with Sweeney also causing three turnovers.

Castleton (0-2) continues its stretch of four straight contests away from home next Saturday, March 10, at Curry College starting at 2 p.m.
