CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton University men's lacrosse team earned its second North Atlantic Conference win of the season, defeating Green Mountain College, 21-1, Wednesday night at Spartan Stadium.
Castleton saw 13 different players score at least one goal, led by Jason Sedell with four goals, including the 100th point of his collegiate career. Sam Siegel finished with two goals and three assists, Kevin McCarthy collected two goals and two assists, and Tyler Crowningshield, Wyatt Pickrell, and Matt Gomes also scored two goals apiece for the Spartans.
Sedell scored the first goal of the game one-and-a-half minutes into the contest, the first of six goals tallied by the Spartans in the first period. Kyle Lutinski picked up two of his three assists during the opening 15 minutes.
The Spartans would score eight goals in the second period, including three goals on extra-man opportunities. Five minutes into the third period, Alec Madden scored his first career collegiate goal, and Ben Davine followed suit with the first goal of his collegiate career with 3:26 remaining in the third period.
Green Mountain (0-5, 0-2 NAC) finally broke through 23 seconds into the fourth period, as Brandon Bellissimo picked up the Eagles' lone goal of the night off an assist from Will Durant. Gomes and Pickrell would each earn their second goal of the game to close out the scoring.
Chelsea Wimble collected 16 saves in net for Green Mountain as Castleton outshot the Eagles, 64-9, including a 38-4 advantage in shots on goal. Three different Spartans saw time in net, with Dakota Jones playing the entire second half and earning three saves.
Castleton (4-5, 2-0 NAC) travels to Bangor, Maine, to face Husson University Saturday, April 7, starting at 11 a.m. The Spartans then return home and take on Plymouth State Sunday, April 8, beginning at 3 p.m. at Spartan Stadium.
