Pickrell Named to Google Cloud Academic All-District At-Large Team

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Following a successful senior year on the ice, on the turf and in the classroom, Castleton dual-sport senior Wyatt Pickrell has been named to the 2018-19 College Sports Information Directors of America's (CoSIDA) Google Cloud Academic All-District First Team.

The 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District At-Large Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom. To qualify, student-athletes must have a GPA above 3.30, be at least a sophomore academically, be a key contributor to their team on the field and have completed one full year at their current institution. The At-Large division is made up of student-athletes competing in lacrosse, rifle, skiing, fencing, swimming, tennis, golf, volleyball, gymnastics, water polo, ice hockey and wrestling. Pickrell will now advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot, with the Academic All-America Teams being released on June 19.

The starting goalie for the men's ice hockey program and a midfielder for the men's lacrosse team, Pickrell earned the accolade as one of just two student-athletes on the District 1 All-District Team with a 4.0 GPA. The biology major has been named to the President's List seven times at Castleton, has been a three-time New England Hockey Conference All-Academic Team selection, a two-time North Atlantic Conference All-Academic Team selection and plans to attend med school in the fall.

He finished the 2018-19 hockey season with 656 saves, a save percentage of .897 and a 3.66 goals-against average. He contributed three goals and three assists on the lacrosse field in addition to 21 ground balls and six caused turnovers. He is one of just two student-athletes from a Vermont college on the Academic All-District Team, joining Middlebury's Lubomir Cuba.

Pickrell is the first men's lacrosse student-athlete to be named to the CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-District First Team, and joins a long list of former men's ice hockey players to earn the award. Trevor Hanna and Ryan Mulder earned the accolade last season, with Hanna eventually earned Google Cloud Third Team Academic All-America honors.
