WILSON, Wyo. – Continuing its unprecedented success and historic season, the Castleton University men's nordic team reached the top of the podium for the third time at the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association's National Championships on Friday afternoon at the Trail Creek Nordic Center.
Winning the team title in the 15-kilometer freestyle, Castleton has gone a perfect 3-for-3 at the National Championships. The Spartans tallied 12 total team points to dominate the field of 10 teams. Clarkson University was the next closest squad with more than double Castleton's total points (26). Colorado Mesa University (29), St. Olaf College (35) and Western State Colorado University (45) rounded out the top 5 in team scoring.
Individually, Andrew Doherty and John Paluszek racked up their third USCSA All-American nods with another couple of top 10 finishes. The duo finished second and third overall, staying together throughout the six laps of competition. Doherty recorded a time of 36:24.2 as well as the fastest second split to give him the overall lead for a period. Paluszek followed with yet another strong performance in a finishing time of 36:49.0.
Rounding out the team scoring and earning All-America recognition, David Harvey placed seventh overall. Getting better throughout the race, Harvey notched four top 10 splits and the sixth-best fifth lap to finish at 37:41.8.
Men's nordic will return to action on Saturday to complete the USCSA National Championships with the classic team relay.
