CASTLETON, Vt. – The Spartans look to sustain their solid start to the season in the ECSC MacConnell Division this weekend, as they compete in the giant slalom and slalom on the slopes of West Mountain in Queensbury, N.Y.
Castleton opened its 2016 campaign last weekend with back-to-back third place finishes in the slalom races at the Blackwater Ski Area in Andover, N.H. The squad had three Spartans finish amongst the top-15 in both of the weekend races, led by Matt Couture who placed first and fourth respectively.
The junior was fanastic in the first slalom event of the year, finishing first overall with a time of 1:37.17. He followed that up by posting a fourth-place finish on Saturday in a time of 1:40.98. Tyler Smith was just behind Couture on both days of the event with respective finishes of ninth (1:40.12) on Friday and fifth (1:41.37) on Saturday, while Connor Kelly opened his Castleton career with a pair of top-15 finishes.
