Men’s Alpine Skiing Comes in Fourth at Whiteface

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – The Castleton men's alpine skiing team came away with a fourth-place finish in the giant slalom on Sunday at Whiteface Mountain.

The Spartans finished just 0.12 seconds behind St. Anselm (6:17.44) in fourth after posting a time of 6:17.56. Clarkson and UConn captured the top two spots with respective times of 6:06.17 and 6:09.68, while UMass Amherst came home in fifth (6:20.60) to round out the top five.

Senior Tyler Smith turned in his best performance of the season, finishing the event in 2:04.30 to capture a team-best ninth-place finish. Junior Matt Couture followed behind by 1.60 seconds to grab 11th overall, while Connor Kelly and Erick Robicsek landed in 13th (2:07.36) and 19th (209.18) respectively. Other top finishers include seniors Gordon Mason and Brendan Drexler, who each recored top-30 finishes.

The Spartans are back in action this weekend when they travel to Bennington, N.H. to race in the GS and slalom on the slopes of Crotched Mountain.
