SUNAPEE, N.H. – Castleton received a pair of top-seven finish and had four skiers in the top 15 to finish second in the giant slalom at Sunapee on Sunday afternoon to conclude its regular season.
The Spartans finished with a total time of 7:56.30, just 1.71 seconds behind Clarkson, who won the event. UConn was third in 7:59.01 while Babson placed fourth in 8:00.97. It was the team's second top-two finish of the weekend.
Junior Conner Kelly finished a career-best second overall with his time of 1:56.32, just 0.95 seconds off first place as he posted the fastest second run to jump to second. Matt Couture took seventh overall with a time of 1:58.89.
Gordon Mason was the third Castleton skier to finish, placing 14th in 2:00.47, while Tyler Smith was right behind him in 15th with a time of 2:00.62. Christopher Yopp (22nd) and Brendan Drexler (25th) also finished in the top 25 to pace the team.
Castleton finished the regular season at third place in the ECSC MacConnell Division, behind just Clarkson and Babson. The Spartans return to action this weekend at the ECSC Regional Championships and with a top-five finish would make another trip back to the USCSA National Championships.
