GREENWOOD, Maine – Connor Kelly won the event in 1:08.82 to lead Castleton's men's alpine skiing to a first-place finish in the USCSA Eastern Regional Giant Slalom Championship at Mt. Abram.
The Spartans had four skiers place inside the top-15, including a pair of top-ten finishes, and finished with a total time of 3:31.02 to take the top spot. UConn came home three seconds behind Castleton in second, followed by Clarkson (3:34.61) and Babson (3:36.84).
Kelly paced the Spartan squad with his first victory of the year. The junior posted a time of 33.12 in his initial run before finishing with a total time of 1:08.82. Junior Matt Couture trailed just behind in sixth in 1:10.52, while seniors Gordon Mason and Tyler Smith placed 11th (1:11.68) and 13th (1:12.75) respectively.
The women's team also took home the top spot, marking the first time in school history that both programs have won a regional event on the same day. Castleton closes out the regional championships today with the slalom race.
