Men's Alpine Skiing Travels to Whiteface for Pair of GS Races

CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton men's alpine skiing team hits the road this to Lake Placid, N.Y., on Friday for a two-day competition in the giant slalom at Whiteface Mountain.

The Spartans have registered first- and third-place finishes in the giant slalom this season in races against ECSC MacConnell Division opponents.

Jan Klindic has been phenomenal so far for the Spartans in the GS, capturing a sixth-place finish a week ago at West Mountain after placing 11th in his first-ever collegiate giant slalom race at Okemo. Erik Brobacke captured a win in the giant slalom in his first race as a Spartan at Okemo, though registered a DNF a week ago after losing a ski during his initial run.

Matt Couture has been a steady skier for Castleton, placing 10th and 12th through two races thus far. Paul Klosterman has shown improvement from last season, as he finished seventh overall in the GS at West Mountain. Andrew Borden has also been competitive for Castleton, finishing 17th overall in his first race of the season.

Erick Robicsek and Carter Lawrence have each finished inside the top-25 for the Spartans this season, while Saywer Mattsson has a top-30 finish in his only GS race of the year.
