Men's Alpine Finishes Fifth in GS at Whiteface

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – The Castleton men's alpine skiing team picked up a fifth-place finish on Saturday, racing in the giant slalom event at Whiteface Mountain.

The Spartans finished with a team time of 6:35.38 on the day to place in the No. 5 spot, while Clarkson was the top team on the day with a time of 6:23.05. The University of Connecticut (UConn) was No. 2 on the day with a time of 6:26.27, and Babson rounded out the top three at 6:26.45.

Erick Robicsek was the Spartans' top finisher, placing 13th overall with a time of 2:10.28. Paul Klosterman placed second on the team and 19th overall at 2:11.79, while Matt Couture rounded out the scorers for Castleton with a 21st-place finish and a time of 2:13.31. Jan Klindic was in fifth place after the initial runs, but failed to finish his second run of the day.

UConn's Brian Chambers topped the podium with a time of 2:06.46, while Andrew Yoviene of Clarkson finished second at 2:06.85. Babson's Dougie Deluca rounded out the top three with a time of 2:07.11.

Castleton returns to the slopes next Saturday at Crotched Mountain for the slalom.
