CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton men's alpine skiing team wraps up its regular season this weekend, racing in a pair of slalom events at Blackwater Ski Area on Friday and Saturday in Andover, N.H.
This marks the final weekend of the regular season for the ECSC MacConnell Division, as the Spartans will compete in the USCSA Eastern Regional Championships on January 18 and 19 at West Mountain.
Jan Klindic has been a top performer for Castleton this season, placing first, fourth and 11th in slalom races for the Spartans thus far. Each time out, Klindic has improved his finish in the SL, topping the podium last time out at Crotched Mountain. Matt Couture has been a steady skier for Castleton as well this season, grabbing two top-20 finishes, including a seventh-place finish in the slalom at Okemo in early January. The senior looks to regain his form from a season ago, when he had a pair of slalom victories and a handful of top-five finishes.
Erik Brobacke has been a key racer in his first season as a Spartan, finishing ninth overall in the slalom at West Mountain, and 25th overall at Crotched Mountain last weekend. The rookie placed second on the team at West Mountain, finishing only behind Klindic. Paul Klosterman has also grabbed a pair of top-25 finishes in the slalom, placing 15th in the season-opening race, and 23rd at Crotched Mountain a week ago. Erick Robicsek has provided the Spartans with experience in the SL, racing his way to 12th and 25th-place finishes this season.
