ANDOVER, N.H. – The Castleton men's ski team collected a fourth-place finish in Saturday's slalom at Blackwater Ski Area, moving up one spot after the day's initial runs.
Castleton ended the first set of runs in fifth place, but put together strong second outings to finish fourth overall with a team time of 4:57.68. The University of Connecticut (UConn) was the No. 1 team at the race, clocking in at 4:50.08 as a team. Clarkson (4:50.30) and Saint Anselm (4:55.71) rounded out the top three.
Erick Robicsek was Castleton's top finisher, placing 12th overall in the 54-man field with a time of 1:38.80. Paul Klosterman clocked in at 1:39.21 to finish second on the team and 16th overall, while Erik Brobacke finished 18th overall at 1:39.67.
Matt Couture finished fourth for the Spartans, placing 22nd overall on the day with a time of 1:41.72. Nick Franssen rounded out the Spartan finishers with a time of 1:42.20, good for 24th place. Castleton was without the time of Jan Klindic, as the standout rookie failed to finish his first run of the day. It was just his second DNF of the season out of nine total races.
UConn's Brian Chambers was the top skier on the day, clocking in at 1:35.38, while teammate Griffin Struyk finished in second at 1:35.63. Babson's Macintyre Henderson rounded out the top three with a time of 1:36.28.
The Spartans wrap up the regular season tomorrow with a second slalom race at Blackwater Ski Area.
