WILMINGTON, N.Y. – Recording its second-straight runner-up performance in the giant slalom, the Castleton University men's alpine ski team wrapped up racing at Whiteface Mountain on a high note on Sunday afternoon.
Paul Rechberger continued to build on his stellar freshman campaign with a second place outing behind a 2:04.07 combined time. In a sport that revolves around the split second, Rechberger crossed the line only 33-hundredths of a second behind Thomas Daigle from Clarkson University.
Helping the Spartan gameplan, Jan Klindic moved up the order from ninth on day one to third on Sunday. The Zagreb, Croatia native clocked a 2:06.95 for his two-split time. Meanwhile, Connor Kelly recorded 15th overall for the Spartans as he completed the competition with a 2:14.88 total time.
Moving from third to first in the team scoring from Saturday, Clarkson University's scorers combined for a time of 6:22.8 (382.77 seconds). The Spartans were three seconds back at 6:25.9 (385.90 seconds), while Babson finished another three back at 6:28.8 (388.80 seconds).
Men's alpine skiing is back in action at West Mountain in Queensbury, N.Y. at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. The weekend of racing will begin with giant slalom on Saturday and then slalom on Sunday.
