Men's Alpine Finishes Second in Season-Opening Slalom at Okemo

LUDLOW, Vt. – The Castleton University men's alpine skiers came away with a second-place finish in the slalom on opening day, placing less than three seconds behind the top team at Okemo Mountain Resort.

The Spartans posted a team time of 4:26.86, 2.50 seconds behind first-place Clarkson, which posted a team total of 4:24.36. The University of Connecticut finished third in 4:28.63, while Babson (4:33.90) and Saint Anselm (4:40.58) rounded out the top five in the 11-team field.

Logan Mackie was Castleton's top finisher, opening his Spartan career with a second-place finish at 1:27.19. He opened the day with the fourth-best run, before laying down the fastest second run of the day to jump up two spots. Cameron Heald finished second on the team and ninth in the field with a two-run time of 1:29.57.

Anton Smith finished 12th overall with a time of 1:30.10, posting the sixth-best second run of the day to move up from 25th place after the opening run. Jan Klindic followed suit, posting the third-best second run to jump from 27th place to a 14th-place finish with a time of 1:30.31. Neil Sheehan rounded out the Castleton standouts with a time of 1:35.17.

The Spartans return to the slopes on Friday morning for the giant slalom at Okemo Mountain Resort. The first runs of the day begin at 9:30 a.m.
