Men's Alpine Claims Two Wins at Crotched Mountain

BENNINGTON, N.H. – The Castleton University alpine ski team had a pair of individual winners en route to a pair of team wins on Friday afternoon, topping the leaderboards in both slalom races at Crotched Mountain.

Logan Mackie topped the individual leaderboard in the morning session for his first career win, while Paul Rechberger claimed the top spot in the afternoon race for his first slalom victory of 2019.

The Spartans claimed the top spot as a team in the morning session with a total time of 4:24.03. Babson finished second with a time of 4:28.40, while Clarkson placed third at 2:31.82. UConn and Saint Anselm rounded out the top-five in the nine-team field in the morning races.

Castleton topped the charts once again in the afternoon race, clocking in at 4:36.02. Clarkson finished second in 4:40.79, with UConn third at 4:41.27. Babson and Saint Anselm finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Mackie claimed the first victory of his career with a dominant performance, posting the two fastest runs of the day for a combined total of 1:26.81. Rechberger placed second at 1:27.82, while Cameron Heald registered a sixth-place finish with a time of 1:29.40. Neil Sheehan also placed in the top-20 with a time of 1:34.06.

In the second race of the day, Rechberger topped the podium with a time of 1:30.79, while Mackie placed fourth at 1:32.12. Heald again placed sixth, registering a time of 1:33.11. Anton Smith rounded out the Spartan standouts with a 13th-place finish, clocking in at 1:34.85.

Castleton returns to the slopes at Whiteface Mountain for a giant slalom race on January 26.
