Men's Alpine Lands First-Ever MacConell Division Title

ANDOVER, N.H. – The Castleton University men's alpine ski team clinched its first-ever Eastern Collegiate Ski Conference MacConnell Division title on Sunday afternoon with a second-place finish in the slalom at Proctor Ski Area.

With the regular-season crown, the Spartans clinched a spot in the United States Ski and Snowboard Association Eastern Regional Championships on February 23 & 24 at Sugarloaf. It was a tight battle that came down to the final regular-season race, as Castleton bested runner-up Babson by just one point, despite Babson's victory in the slalom on Sunday. The Beavers topped Castleton by just one second on Sunday, posting a team time of 4:39.74, while the Spartans checked in at 4:40.76. The University of Connecticut placed third at 4:46.36.

Castleton's Paul Rechberger topped the field, posting a two-run total of 1:29.98 in the final tune-up before the regional races. Cameron Heald finished in a tie for seventh place with teammate Anton Smith at 1:35.39, while Neil Sheehan finished in 19th place with a time of 1:40.02.

Babson's Jack Blanchard finished second individually with a time of 1:31.57, with UConn's Brian Chambers in third at 1:33.38.
