WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – Notching nine shots-on-goal, but failing to score, the Castleton University men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 contest to Eastern Connecticut State University on Saturday afternoon at Thomas Nevers Field.
Castleton falls to 6-6-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the Little East Conference, while Eastern Connecticut improves to 12-2-0 and 5-1-0.
Despite the final score, Castleton remained aggressive throughout the match. Five players tallied multiple shots during the match led by Jack Kingdon (4) and Rida Kori (3). Seraphin Iradukunda, Diatourou Drame and Colby Gay each had two shots with four of those six coming on-goal.
Scoring the lone goal of the contest – in the 33rd minute – Patrick Agyemang received a pass from Sam Hurlburt on the left side of the field. The former proceeded to go one-on-one with the Castleton keeper, lofting the ball over his head for the goal.
Alex Fernald took the loss for Castleton in goal, despite allowing just one score. The sophomore falls to 2-5-1 on the season, while making three saves.
Castleton and East Conn went back-and-forth throughout and subsequently were neck-and-neck with shots. The Spartans led the way 14-13, while East Conn had 10 corner kicks to just three for the visitors.
Men's soccer returns to action at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday as it hosts the University of Maine-Farmington in nonconference action at Dave Wolk Stadium.
