Men's Tennis Sweeps Lyndon State In Season-Opening Contest

STOWE, Vt. – On the back of dominating singles' play, the Castleton University men's tennis team surrendered just five games during six matches, while picking up a 9-0 sweep victory against Lyndon State on Saturday evening.

Playing indoors at the TopNotch Resort, Castleton improves to 1-0 in its season-opening contest, while Lyndon State falls to 0-1. Despite being conference opponents, the contest was excluded from counting toward North Atlantic Conference records.

Opening the match with 8-0 and 8-1 victories in second and third doubles, Castleton set the tone early and jumped out to a 2-0 advantage. Following an 8-3 win in the top flight of doubles, Castleton kicked it into high gear.

Trevor Hanna, Brody Wagner, Darwin Norris and Riley Laughlin led a streak that saw the Spartans win all 48 possible games between second and fifth singles. Each matchup was thoroughly dominated by Castleton and resulted in identical 6-0, 6-0 score lines.

Ryan Ng was almost as dominant in the six hole as he dropped just one game in route to a 6-0 and 6-1 win. Tested more than anyone else and rightly so in the top flight, Quentin Barthe quickly swept his way to the opening set before putting up a battle and clinching the second set 6-4.
