CASTLETON, Vt. – Riding the momentum of two-straight shutouts to begin the 2018 season, the Castleton University men's tennis team will welcome the University of Maine Fort Kent to the Rutland Grand Slam Tennis Center.
Entering its makeshift home opener at 1 p.m. on Saturday, the Spartans have won each singles and doubles pairing that they have taken part in thus far.
A week ago – in a 9-0 win against Johnson State – Castleton's Trevor Hanna and Darwin Norris collected 6-0, 6-0 wins. Combined with his doubles partner Brody Wagner, Hanna has not surrendered a game in singles or doubles to this point. Norris has followed his teammates' lead, remaining perfect in singles and dropping only seven games through two matches in doubles.
At number one singles and doubles, Quentin Barthe has been solid for the team surrendering only 10 games over four sets played – all of which were won. Playing with Jared Wheeler and Norris in doubles, Barthe has had little trouble.
Maine-Fort Kent will be playing its first match of the season when it travels to Rutland to face the host Spartans.
Following Saturday's dual, Castleton will go out on the road for three consecutive matches. Renewing the classic Vermont rivalry, the Spartans will travel to Northfield to face Norwich at 4 p.m. on Wednesday prior to heading north for the Southern Maine-Thomas double over the weekend.
