WATERVILLE, Maine – Ryan Ng of the Castleton University men's tennis team was named North Atlantic Conference Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week for the week ending March 25, according to the league office on Monday afternoon.
The Manhattan Beach, Calif. native put on a strong display in the Spartans 9-0 victory against visiting the University of Maine-Fort Kent on Saturday afternoon. In just the second collegiate singles match of his career, Ng put up a 6-2, 6-1 winning score line.
Jumping out to an early lead with a couple of breaks of serve in the first, the freshman stayed true to his form. Keeping his foot on the gas, Ng collected another pair of breaks in the second and coasted to the victory in the sixth flight.
Ng also won the first match of his career in similar fashion against Lyndon State just two weeks ago. Winning at sixth singles again, Ng picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win.
Following a fairly pedestrian start to the season, the men's tennis team will ramp up the schedule in the coming week. Castleton will face Battle of Vermont rival Norwich at 4 p.m. on Wednesday before taking a weekend trip north to battle the University of Southern Maine and Thomas College.
