Men's Tennis Returns Home For Conference Battles

CASTLETON, Vt. – Returning to action after a week break, the Castleton University men's tennis team will host a couple of conference matches over the weekend.

Welcoming Lyndon St. and Johnson St. at 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, Castleton looks to continue its dominance over its league rivals.

Earlier in the year – less than a month ago – the Spartans travelled north to face both institutions at Topnotch Resort in Stowe, Vt. During the designated nonconference matchups, Castleton rolled, earning each possible point.

During the 9-0 and 9-0 team wins, Trevor Hanna and Brody Wagner were dominant at the second flight of doubles. Defeating Lyndon St. and Johnson St.'s respective duos 8-0 and 8-0, the seniors carried it over to individual play.

Playing in the second flight of singles against Lyndon and the third flight at Johnson, it made no difference as Hanna delivered a clean straightforward performance in both. Earning four bagel sets, the Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada native did not surrender a game through his first four matches.

Meanwhile, Wagner dropped just two games en route to a perfect 4-0 start. To this point, Wagner and Hanna are 7-1 combined in singles and are unscathed in doubles play (4-0).

Having defeated Maine-Fort Kent in its technical home opener at the Grand Slam Tennis Center in Rutland a few weeks back, the Spartans are 1-0 in that sense. Yet, they are still waiting to make an appearance on their outdoor courts as both of the weekend's matches will be played indoors.
