CASTLETON, Vt. – Remaining one of the few Castleton University athletic teams yet to face a weather-related schedule change for the weekend ahead, the men's tennis team will travel to face the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. The North Atlantic Conference contest is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
Last time out for Castleton, it faced and defeated conference opponents Lyndon State and Johnson State last Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Knocking off both teams in clean sweeps, the Spartans improved to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in league action.
MCLA enters play with 2-3 and 1-1 records and coming off a 9-0 win in the backend of a home-and-home series with Lyndon State. In the earlier home contest with the Hornets, the Trailblazers earned the 8-1 victory.
No. 1 singles player Quentin Barthe will lead Castleton into play with a shiny 7-1 individual record and a 7-1 doubles slate. Joining him is the duo of Trevor Hanna and Brody Wagner; they are currently undefeated in doubles (5-0).
Matt Bluteau, Aaron Goldsmith, Charles Najimy are pacing MCLA so far as each player has recorded two wins to their credit in singles. As a team Bluteau and Najimy are 2-0.
During the 2017 season, the Spartans rolled to a 9-0 sweep over the Trailblazers. It marks the second consecutive season that Castleton earned that fate.
Men's tennis will return to action at 4 p.m. on Tuesday as they play their rescheduled match against Norwich. Keep up with the schedule on castletonsports.com for any location changes.
