Men's Tennis Places Four on NAC East All-Conference Squads

WATERVILLE, Maine – Four members of the Castleton University men's tennis team have earned spots on the 2018 North Atlantic Conference East men's tennis All-Conference squads. The Spartans finished the regular season at 7-5 and 2-3 in league action to earn the four-seed in the upcoming NAC East Tournament.

Quentin Barthe led the recognition for Castleton by earning a spot on the All-NAC East singles first team after previously being named to the second team during the last two seasons. The senior manned the top spot all season for the Spartans, rolling to a 9-3 mark, including a pair of conference wins. Entering the NAC East Tournament, Barthe has a 30-7 record in singles in his three years on the team.

Leaning on Brody Wagner whenever he was needed, the senior collected big wins in third, fourth and fifth singles to earn a place on the All-NAC East singles second team. Wagner got off to a scorching hot start and nearly rode the momentum to an unscathed record (8-1), dropping his only match in his final regular season contest.

Earning spots on the All-NAC East doubles second team, Barthe and Wagner were joined by their partners Jared Wheeler and Trevor Hanna, respectively. Playing nine matches together in the first doubles position, Barthe and Wheeler went 6-3 and 2-2 against NAC East competition.

Wagner and Hanna put together a remarkable season going 8-1 in the second doubles spot, which included a pair of comeback wins. In both matches against Norwich, the team was forced to battle – including recovering from a 7-4 hole in the second – to earn tiebreak victories (10-7 & 10-3).

Hanna was also recognized with a spot on the Sportsmanship Team, joining five other players. It marks the third-straight year that Castleton has had a player earn the honor.

The fourth-seeded Spartans return to action on Saturday as they battle the No. 1 Chargers of Colby-Sawyer in the NAC East Tournament semis. On the other half of the bracket will be No. 2 Thomas College against three-seed MCLA.
