Men's Cross Country Set to Host Castleton Invitational On Saturday

CASTLETON, Vt. - Coming off a second-place overall finish with 41 total points in the season-opening race, the Spartans will look to improve on that score when they host the Castleton Invitational this weekend at 11 a.m.

The Spartans are coming off a second-place finish in the Southern Vermont Invitational with Grandon Smith taking first place overall out of 53 runners with an impressive time of 17:38. Smith picked up right where he left off last season, finishing in first place on the team in all nine races.

The Spartans had three more runners hovering in the top ten with Jonah LaVigne, Jared Wheeler, and Patrick Gilligan finishing ninth, tenth, and 11th, respectively.

In last year's Castleton Invitational, the Spartans placed second overall behind strong top-ten performances from three returning runners. Smith placed third, Jonah LaVigne placed seventh, while Alex Lauzon finished closely behind in tenth. Tallying 38 points on the day, the Spartans only trailed Southern Vermont, who won with 34 points.
