CASTLETON, Vt. – This afternoon, Grandon Smith was named the North Atlantic Conference Runner of the Week for the week ending Sept. 11, after taking first place out of 48 runners with an impressive 27:27 time in the Castleton Invitational 8K race.
After leading Castleton in every event last season, Smith has jumped out to a great start again in 2016 with back-to-back first place finishes. Smith led the pack of 48 runners from five different schools with an impressive 27:27 time, which was faster than second place by 35 seconds.
Smith's second straight win helped the Spartans take second place overall with 33 points for the event. Castleton only trailed Southern Vermont, who tallied 24 total points with five runners in the top ten.
Castleton returns to action at 11:15 a.m. next Saturday, Sept. 17 in the UMASS-Dartmouth Invitational.
