CASTLETON, Vt. - This afternoon, the Eastern College Athletic Conference has announced Castleton's Grandon Smith has been named the Division III New England Men's Cross-Country Runner of the Week for the week ending Sept. 11.
Smith led the Spartans in the Castleton Invitational, taking first place out of 48 runners from five different teams. The junior crossed the line at 27:27, which was 35 seconds faster than second place. Smith helped the Spartans finish second overall with a toal score of 33 points.
After earning First-Team All-Conference honors for the North Atlantic Conference and leading his team to the finish line in all nine competitions last season, Smith is off to another great start in 2016. The junior has tallied back-to-back first-place finishes in the opening two races of the campaign.
Smith and the Spartans will be back on the course at 11:15 a.m. this Saturday, Sept. 17 at the UMASS-Dartmouth Invitational.
