CASTLETON, Vt. - Grandon Smith was named Eastern College Athletic Conference Runner of the Week for the week ending Sept. 18, acknowleding the junior's performance in the UMASS-Dartmouth Invitational.
After two wins to start the season, Smith accomplished another impressive finish in the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational with a time of 26:19, leading all NAC runners to the finish line and placing 34th overall. Smith's 5:17 pace was a season-best and helped the Spartans take 20th-place as a team in a strong field of 33 programs.
Smith has now earned two NAC accolades in three events this season, along with two ECAC Runner of the Week honors to go with two first-place finishes before the most recent 34th-place finish out of 242 runners.
Following a bye week, Smith and the Spartans will compete in the Vermont State Meet hosted by St. Michaels College on Friday, Sept. 30. Starting time is scheduled for 4:15 p.m.
