Men's Cross Country Takes 12th Place at Western New England Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Castleton men's cross country team placed 12th overall out of 21 teams at the eight-kilometer Western New England Invitational on Saturday morning.

The Spartans were led by Grandon Smith who crossed the line in third place overall out of 193 runners with an impressive time of 26:22, giving the junior a 5:19 pace. Smith was the leading North Atlantic Conference runner by nearly two minutes on the afternoon.

Jonah Lavigne crossed the line next for Castleton with a 47th place finish, before Jared Wheeler came across the finish line shortly after with a 55th place tally.

Kyle Dash, Alex Lauzon, Max Murphy, and John Everett all competed in the meet for Castleton. Collectively, the Spartans had 256 points on the afternoon.

SUNY Delhi took the meet with 34 overall points, before the University of New England (115) and Westfield State (118) rounded out the top three.

The Spartans return to action on Saturday, Oct. 29 for the NAC Championship, hosted by Johnson State.
