Men's Cross Country Set for NAC Championship

CASTLETON, Vt. – Following a two-week break, the Castleton men's cross country team is back in action on Saturday for the North Atlantic Conference Championship, hosted by Johnson State.

The Spartans are coming off a 12th place finish out of 21 competing programs in the eight-kilometer Western New England Invitational, with three runners placing in the front half of the pack.

Grandon Smith led all Castleton runners with a third place finish out of 193 runners overall, crossing the line with an impressive 26:22 mark and leading all NAC runners by nearly two minutes.

Jonah Lavigne picked up a 47th place finish in the meet with a time of 28:57, before Jared Wheeler followed closely behind at 29:15, placing the freshman 55th overall.

In last year's NAC Championship, Smith finished second overall and led the team to a fifth place team finish overall. The upcoming race will serve as a final tune up for the ECAC Championships on Nov. 5 and the NCAA Division III New England Regionals hosted by Westfield State on Nov. 12.

Castleton will be seeking its fourth top five of the season on Saturday, with runners taking their marks at 11 a.m.
