CASTLETON, Vt. - Following a first place finish in the North Atlantic Conference Championship at Johnson State over the weekend, Grandon Smith of the Castleton University men's cross country team has been tabbed NAC Runner of the Week.
Smith completed the eight-kilometer race with a time of 26:22, pacing the field of 101 runners to the finish line for his first career NAC Championship top spot finish. After finishing as high as second in the conference championship one season ago, Smith left no doubt this year, taking first place by seven seconds.
Smith led Castleton to a third place team finish with 88 points, which was its highest finish in the NAC Championship over the previous three seasons. This is the fourth time the NAC has honored Smith this season, as the Newtown, Conn. native has reeled in four Runner of the Week awards in just six meets on the year.
The Spartans will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 5 for the ECAC Championships, held at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome in Milton, N.Y.
