Men's Cross Country Heads to ECAC Championships

CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton University men's cross country team will travel to Milton, N.Y. on Saturday for the ECAC Championships at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome.

Castleton is coming off an impressive third place finish in the NAC Championship one week ago, backed by junior Grandon Smith's first place overall finish. After taking second in the event last season, the NAC Runner of the Year picked up his first career conference championship victory with a 26:22 mark, seven seconds faster than the runner-up.

Like he has all season, Jonah Lavigne came next for Castleton with an 18th place finish in a time of 28:53, before Kyle Dash clocked in closely behind at 29:14 for a 21st place finish. Jared Wheeler and Patrick Gilligan rounded out the top five for Castleton, placing 27th and 28th, respectively.

Last season, Castleton placed 16th out of 40 competing teams in the ECAC Championships in Williamstown, Mass.

The Spartans will be looking for a fifth top ten of the 2016 campaign when the runners take to the course on Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
