Men's Cross Country Set for Vermont State Meet

CASTLETON, Vt. – Following a week hiatus, the Castleton men's cross country team is set to return to action Saturday when it competes at the Vermont State Meet at Middlebury College at 1:30 p.m.

Last time out, Castleton placed 25th out of 40 teams at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 16. Grandon Smith placed ninth overall with a time of 25:42, just 19 seconds off the leader's pace. Gannon McKearin had a strong showing after clocking in at 28:05, just ahead of teammate Jared Wheeler's time of 28:22. Oliver Rodgers and Carter Kline rounded out the Spartan top five with respective times of 32:37 and 34:09.

The Spartans will be seeking their third top three finish of the season when they take the course Saturday afternoon. Last season, Castleton placed fourth out of nine teams behind a third-place finish from Smith. Nine teams are set to compete in this year's event.
