Men Place Fifth at Vermont Colleges State Cross Country Championship

LYNDON, Vt. – Following six consecutive Middlebury College runners, Gannon McKearin placed seventh and was first non-Panther to finish the men's eight-kilometer Vermont Colleges State Championship hosted at Northern Vermont University-Lyndon on Saturday.

McKearin finished with a time of 30:30.7, one of 10 finishers to finish with s sub-31 minute time, all separated by just 1:20.

Castleton finished fifth with a team score of 121. Middlebury earned a decisive win with 15 points, the minimum possible. They were followed by St. Michael College (74 points), Norwich University (91 points), NVU-Lyndon (105). Vermont Technical College (158 points) and NVU-Johnson (192 points) trailed the Spartans. Green Mountain College also competed in the meet.  

Jared Wheeler crossed the line 14th in 31:45. Freshmen Avery Barrino (34:26.9) and Justin Perretta (40:42.9) placed 29th and 48th, respectively. Jacob Peet and Nathan Bushweller finished within two seconds of each other to place 50th and 51st, respectively.

Patrick Linehan ended up with a 59th place finish with a time of 45:01.6, while Tom Rizza was 60th in 46:08.4.

The Spartans compete next at the Green Mountain College Invitational on Oct. 13 at 11:45 a.m.
